La música que se puede escuchar en Bond 24

Tras el gran éxito de Thomas Newman en Skyfall, con su nominación al Óscar por la banda sonora, estaba claro que si volvía Sam Mendes, de nuevo iba a contar con su compositor habitual. El propio Mendes lo confirmó cuando se presentó el título y el reparto de la película en diciembre de 2014.

A pesar de la habitual expectación, más cuando se pudo escuchar una versión del tema de Al servicio secreto de Su Majestad en un tráiler, la banda sonora de Newman para SPECTRE provocó división de opiniones. A algunos volvió a cautivar la atmósfera Bond que creaba, pero otros encontraron demasiadas similitudes con el trabajo de Skyfall.

Como suele ser habitual, más presión había sobre el cantante del tema principal. No solo por la larga tradición bondiana de nombres de primera línea en la historia de la música, sino por el triunfal tema de Adele y los múltiples premios recibidos con su Skyfall.

El 8 de septiembre de 2015 y tras negarlo en numerosas ocasiones, Sam Smith fue anunciado como el cantante y compositor, junto a Jimmy Napes, de Writing’s on the Wall. El single pudo escucharse el 25 de septiembre de 2015.

La canción no fue incluida en la banda sonora, como ya había ocurrido con los discos de Casino Royale (2006) y Skyfall (2012).

A pesar de algunas críticas a los falsetes habituales en el estilo de Sam Smith, la canción se convirtió en el primer tema Bond en alcanzar el número 1 de las listas de Reino Unido. Además, también consiguió el Globo de Oro y el Óscar, como había hecho Adele tres años antes.

Por cierto que Writing’s on the Wall (literalmente “está escrito en la pared”, con el significado de “ser de dominio público” o “advertencia pública”) es una expresión que Brosnan pronuncia bromeando en GoldenEye, tras la explosión del muñeco en el laboratorio de Q, aunque en el doblaje español se cambió a “Eso es cargar las tintas”.
