La música aparecida en la vigesimotercera película oficial de la franquicia

En Skyfall el compositor Thomas Newman (American Beauty, Camino a la perdición, Jarhead o Revolutionary Road) tomaba el relevo de David Arnold al frente de la banda sonora de la película. El motivo del cambio no fue tanto la participación de David Arnold en la Ceremonia de Apertura de los JJOO de 2012, sino el hecho de que Newman fuera seleccionado por el propio Mendes con quien ya había trabajado anteriormente.

Pese a los insistentes rumores, lo cierto es que la confirmación del cantante oficial para Skyfall se hizo de rogar. Finalmente, Adele confirmaba que había escrito y grabado el tema principal, junto a su escritor de canciones habitual Paul Epworth. En la portada que ella misma colgó en twitter los créditos indicaban que ella y Epworth habían escrito juntos la canción, y que los arreglos los habían realizado Epworth y J. A. C. Redford.

El tema principal de Skyfall se lanzó online a las 0:07 horas del 5 de octubre de 2012 a través de un vídeo que permitía leer la letra. La fecha se hizo coincidir con el “Día Mundial de James Bond”, bautizado así por los productores con motivo del 50 aniversario de la franquicia por el estreno de Agente 007 contra el Dr. No en 1962.

La canción alcanzó el puesto número 1 en iTunes ese mismo día, y su CD se pondría a la venta el 29 de octubre. En la madrugada del 24 de febrero de 2013, durante la 85ª ceremonia de los Óscar, el tema de Adele conseguiría el Óscar a la Mejor Canción Original.
